The Students’ Union is a democratic, representative group at Newham College of Further Education that exists to represent student views. Every student enrolled on a course at NCFE is automatically enrolled as a member of the Students’ Union. Its run by students, for students and that means - Students are in charge of their own union!
With over 10,000 students here at Newham College of Further Education it would be impossible to operate and run a representative group without a small team of people being tasked with the job. This is where the executive officers play a vital part in ensuring that student views are heard. They are a team of current students who are elected in a campus wide ballot each year and are entrusted with representing the views of each and every student.
Every March, you can put yourself forwards for any of the roles within the Students’ Union listed below.
- Vice President East Ham
- Vice President Stratford
- Events Officer East Ham
- Events Officer Stratford
- Campaigns Officer East Ham
- Campaigns Officer Stratford
- Sports and Activities Officer East Ham
- Sports and Activities Officer Stratford
- Students’ Union Officer (Non Portfolio East Ham)
- Students’ Union Officer (Non Portfolio Stratford)
- Higher Education Officer
- Disabled Students’ Officer
- LGBT Officer
The Students’ Union Officers are also responsible for putting on extra curricular trips, events, campaigns and activities.
If you don’t think you’d like to be involved as an officer there are lots of other ways to be involved with the union and student voice. You could put yourself forward to be a course representative or an NUS delegate or you could set up a club or society or even plan and run an event or fundraiser of your own!
NUS (National Union of Students)
The Students’ Union works alongside and is affiliated to NUS (National Union of Students) to ensure that your views are heard inside the college and the local community as well as on a national and international platform.
As a student at an NUS affiliated college you are also able to sign up and purchase an NUS Extra card (more commonly known as a student discount card) which can save you between 5% and 25% in shops, resteraunts and attractions nationwide! To get your card go to www.NUS.org.uk or https://cards.nusextra.co.uk/
