What is involved?

You will develop your understanding of the principles and processes used in engineering. You will also extend the practical skills that you gained at level 2.

You will be involved in studying mechanical, electrical and electronic principles and applications; in addition to communication techniques, engineering drawing and computer aided design.

There will be an emphasis on working safely, whilst gaining knowledge of the tools, equipment, principles and processes that are used within the engineering industry alongside health and safety in the workplace.

Assessment will be achieved, through completion of assignments, projects and practical assessments. You will also have the opportunity to gain functional skills if you do not already have them. This course will also enable you to participate in a range of enrichment activities, which are tailored to your interests within the curriculum area.


What will my career options be?

You will be able to progress to Extended Diploma in Engineering if you gain 90 credits at the subsidiary diploma level.

What is the cost?

This Course is Free for 16-18 Home Students.

What do I need?

You need one of the following qualifications:
  • 5 GCSEs passes at grades A*-C with English and Maths at grade C or Key Skills in applied communications and applied numeracy at level 2
  • An international equivalent, determined by qualified guidance staff within admissions
  • A level 2 course with Key Skills in applied communications and applied numeracy
  • An EAL level 2 in Engineering or BTEC First Diploma in Engineering or NOCN progression Diploma in a related subject at level 2 including the National Basic Skills Test
  • A prerequisite professional qualification
