The aim of the course is to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed for successful employment through the development of your personal career plan. The course will develop your practical and technical garment-making skills to an advanced level, building on your existing skills and experience. The course also includes industry research and analysis to provide you with an overview of the sector and to help you identify the employment role that best suits your abilities and aspirations.
You will learn in a variety of ways - through talks and demonstrations, by completing practical tasks and projects, by independent study, and by self-evaluation and assessment of your work.
The course is based at Newham College's East Ham Campus (five minutes from East Ham tube) in modern, well-equipped garment production and pattern cutting workshops, plus some sessions will take place at the College's Fashion and Textile Museum (www.ftmlondon.org).
During the course you will be encouraged to find work placements in tailoring or garment production companies. Work placements will develop your understanding of the commercial world in which companies operate, and will help to develop your professionalism as well as your technical and practical skills.
You will receive a full introduction to how the course operates at an open day. You will take part in an induction at the beginning of the course.
