You will explore a wide range of media and drawing techniques, and develop your skills in the key aspects of the design process - colour and materials, working to a brief, visual research and generating new design ideas, the design development process, the role of computer software in design, photography and styling, and presentation techniques.
You will also learn about contemporary fashion and textiles practice. Newham College has very close links with the sector, and owns and operates the fabulous Fashion and Textile Museum as a world-renowned exhibition and training centre www.ftmlondon.org - your course will include some sessions at the FTM, along with visits to places of interest as part of our enrichment programme.
Teaching is in small groups with individual support to help you reach your full potential. The course will develop your ability to work in a professional context, and will help you identify the fashion employment role that best suits your abilities and aspirations. English and maths support is arranged where needed, and the course will offer work experience opportunities.
As the course progresses you will be encouraged to develop your personal design interests, and will produce a portfolio of creative design work to enable you to successfully take your next step towards further study or employment.
To further develop your skills and understanding, you can progress to the next level - the BTEC Extended Diploma level 3 course.
There is a wide range of other progression opportunities, including application for apprenticeship / employment.
