What is involved?

You will study ways to communicate your ideas clearly - whatever you are writing. This course will develop your reading and writing skills through a variety of tasks and you will learn exactly what you need in order to succeed. There will be two controlled assessments and one external exam in May/June, covering the following topics:

  • English Today
  • The Writer's Voice and Spoken Language

Independent study sessions are run alongside more formal work and in your free time, you can use our extensive library, computer, multi-media facilities and join in a wide range of social activities. You may also be eligible for support with your studies if you have a learning difficulty or disability. This support is free to UK residents.


What will my career options be?

This is a recognised qualification that will enable you to continue your education by moving on to more advanced programmes, alternatively you could begin to seek employment.

What do I need?

You must be registered on a Newham College course at Level 2 or Level 3 in order to enrol for this particular programme. You also need:

  • GCSE English Language at grade D or above (This is a resit programme so previous knowledge is vital)
  • Or equivalent international qualifications - our Learner Services Team can advise on these.
  • You will also be required to sit an initial diagnostic test for GCSE English

You will be required to have a dictionary, text book, writing pad, pen, highlighter and a core reading book - for your studies.
