When I leave college I want to be...

Teaching Improvement Managers

Our directorate of Quality offer a wide-ranging development scheme. Our Teaching Improvement Managers (TIMs) are qualified and well experienced teaching practitioners who are employed to observe teaching and learning against Newham College standards. They grade teaching and learning in a manner that is consistent with the methods used by Ofsted & ALI, support and advise teachers and share good practice on teaching and learning methodologies on a College wide basis.
The TIMs scheme is a continuous process of evaluation and support. It is focused on the continuing professional learning needs of teachers, and the underpinning assumption is that all teachers can benefit from objective observation and professional support and development.

QUILD also provides the following support:

  • Training and development support on standards of teaching and learning (Ofsted, ALI and NCFE)
  • Guidance on lesson planning, differentiation, student centred methods, and managing challenging behaviours
  • Support in using innovative and accelerated learning methods to improve engagement
  • Issues related to effective assessments (formative and summative assessments)
  • Developing effective learning materials and resource based learning
  • Sharing good practice across the college
  • Disseminating and supporting the development of current changes to good practice in teaching, learning and assessment.

Do you need to gain full Teacher Qualified Status?
