What is the Diploma Worth?
The Creative and Media Diploma is offered at 2 Levels at Newham College.

• Foundation Diploma equivalent to 5 GSCE grades D-G
• Higher Diploma equivalent to 7 GCSE grades A*-C

So What is Creative and Media All About?

During the Diploma you will learn:

• Creativity in context: the things that can influence the creative process.
• Thinking and working creatively: ways of exploring, experimenting with and developing ideas, skills and techniques.
• Principles, processes and practice: the skills, techniques and processes to turn your ideas into the reality.
• Creative businesses and enterprise: an understanding of real situations and the skills that you need to succeed in industry.

On the course you will:

• Use your creative skills and ideas to make something.
• Find out about the business side of a creative project like budgeting and marketing your ideas and products.
• Work up ideas, alone and in a team.

The Mixing Desk
You will take compulsory units which will develop your understanding and knowledge of the subject. You must also complete courses in English, Maths and ICT. An optional course will make up the rest of your Diploma. For your optional courses, you can choose a specialist course which will extend your knowledge of your Diploma or a completely different subject.

What Could This Diploma Lead To?
The Diploma will give you the skills you need for either university or work.

It could lead you to a university degree in any number of subjects including animation, textiles, dance, film, music, fashion and graphic design.

It could help you begin a career as a creative or media professional, by leading to vocational training, such as Apprenticeships.

You might choose to use the skills you have learnt in this diploma to go into a different area of study or employment sector.
