QualificationsNewCAD, AS & A Levels & GCSEs, BTEC National Diplomas, NVQs, Pre-Access and Access Courses We offer a wide range of courses - so whatever your ambitions and goals, abilities and interests, you'll be spoilt for choice. We'll help you put together your own personal programme. This will suit the way you study, and get you the qualifications you need to move on. To help you choose what suits you best this page explains the different types of qualifications that are available. You can also choose different levels, detailed on our What Level am I? page, depending on how much you already know, and where you want to go next. Top of Page NewCAD NewCAD stands for Newham College Access Diploma. Pioneered by Newham College and validated by the Open College Network, these are nationally recognised innovative courses. They are designed to develop your skills in specialist subjects and include communication, numeracy, problem solving, time management, IT and working with others. Assessment is mainly through coursework but there are some exams. Top of Page AS & A Levels & GCSEs 5 GCSEs at grade A-C or qualifications of an equivalent standard are required if you want to move on to AS and A Levels. You can retake your GCSEs if necessary. AS and A Levels are familiar to employers and educational establishments - they are the standard entry qualification if you want to go to University. AS courses are studied in your first year, and you can take up to 4 subjects. If your performance is satisfactory you can move on to studying those subjects at A2 in your second year. You can also opt to study a combination of AS and A2 Levels in your second year. Our high pass rates demonstrate that we offer excellent tuition standards. Top of Page BTEC National Diplomas This qualification will allow you to specialise in a particular vocational area, such as Business, ICT or Performing Arts. They form the majority of your programme so it is important that you are committed to the vocational area. Top of Page NVQs You get National Vocational Qualifications when you can demonstrate the knowledge and skills required in an occupation like Hairdressing, Beauty, Performing Engineering Operations, Sport or Business courses. A training course helps you progress step by step through a series of assessments. These relate to various nationally recognised standards. As your skills build up you collect units, which count towards you qualifying for a full NVQ at a particular level. Your personal rate of progress determines the length of the course. Top of Page Pre-Access and Access Courses We have a range of courses specially designed to help you get back into education, whether you want to return to study A Levels on the Access to A Levels Bridging Course or want to progress to University through one of our Access courses. Access courses prepare you for Nursing or Medical courses, or Degrees in Computing or Humanities. You don't need any formal qualifications to do these courses but you will need to have reached a standard of literacy and numeracy to enable you to succeed on your course. You can also study a Pre-Access course if you don't feel ready for an Access course. Top of Page ![]() ![]() |
