GCSE Science Re-sit Programme
2

Is the course for me?

If you didn't get the results you hoped for at GCSE and want to progress your studies in science, we offer a very successful Science GCSE re-sit programme. On this course you will study GCSE Maths, English and ICT, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics in a combined Science GCSE. This programme provides a very sound base to progress onto further academic study on our Science A level or other level 3 Science programmes, or to gain employment.

What does the course involve?

In the combined science GSCE You will cover the broad areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In Biology you will learn about: Life Processes and Cell Activity, Humans as Organisms, Variation, Inheritance and Evolution, Micro-organisms, Disease in Humans. In Chemistry you will learn about: Classifying Materials e.g. bonding, Changing Materials e.g. representing reactions, Patterns of Behaviour e.g. energy changes, Chemistry in the Laboratory e.g. tests for ions, Chemistry and the Environment e.g. carbon cycle. In Physics you will learn about: Electricity and Magnetism, Forces and Motion, Waves, The Earth and Beyond, Energy Resources, Energy Transfer, Radioactivity, Communications and Particles. You will also study three other GCSEs including Maths, English and ICT. Maths involves studying the theory/principles of mathematics and, gaining the skills to apply this knowledge in the rest of your course and in the future. You will cover - Number, Algebra, Shapes, Space & Measurement and Data handling. Maths is an important subject in life and in all the sciences. English involves learning ways to communicate your ideas clearly - whatever you are writing. You will develop your reading and writing skills through a variety of tasks, learning exactly what you need in order to pass. ICT involves investigating and studying information and communication technology in a variety of contexts, for example the home, recreational environments, the community, or business and industry. By using, developing and evaluating a range of ICT systems you will gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed at GCSE level and in future employment. Independent study sessions are run alongside your more formal work and, in your free time, you can use our extensive library, computer and multi-media facilities and join in a wide range of social activities. You may also be eligible for support with your studies if you have a learning difficulty or disability. This support is free to UK residents.

What options are open to me if I successfully complete the course?

Each subject area within our GCSE Science Re-sit programme amounts to a nationally recognised qualification, that will enable you to continue your education on to A Level or Applied Science programmes. The programme which is inclusive of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English and ICT could also help you gain employment in entry level jobs in the Science industry.

What do I need to get on the course?

You need one of the following qualifications: - 5 GCSE passes at grade D, including 2 Science subjects, English and Maths at grade D (or Key Skills in applied communications and applied numeracy at level 1) - equivalent international qualifications (our knowledgeable team of course consultants can offer advice on these).
