Deaf Support FAQ
A person who enables deaf and hard of hearing students to access the course lessons.
The communicator uses the communication method you want. This can be:
· Sign Language (British Sign Language/Sign Supported English)
The communicator can:
· Clarify language
A person who will have 1:1 tutorials with you to clarify your work.
A support tutor can:
· Go through your work with you
A support tutor will assess you.
We provide communicator support in the classroom and
· On work experience
You may be entitled to special exam arrangements. This may be extra time and communication support.
There are usually about 40-50 deaf students each year.
There are about 15 communicators.
You will be invited to come into the college and meet other deaf students and the communicators before the courses start.
Once you have started at college you can meet your friends in the canteen and Student Life.
You may have different communicators in different classes. We try to keep the same communicators with you throughout your course.
