Newham College of Further Education is awarded ‘Outstanding’ in its recent Ofsted inspection.

Newham College of Further Education has succeeded in being awarded ‘Outstanding’ in this four year cycle of inspection.

In the official report published July 2009,  Ofsted – the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills – emphasised such qualities as the ‘college’s innovative and inclusive curriculum’, as well as the ‘highly successful partnerships which are well focused to meet community needs’.

Reinforcing Newham College’s status as one the Country’s and one of London’s leading providers of Post-16 education, the report praises the College for the quality of its provision:

‘The overall effectiveness of provision is outstanding’
‘Overall success rates … are now often above the most recently available national comparators for similar colleges, and well above for learners aged 16-18’
‘The college’s response to educational and social inclusion and to meeting the needs and interests of learners is outstanding’
‘The quality of provision is outstanding’
‘Outstanding support for learners’
‘Leadership, management and governance is outstanding’
‘Employers’ needs are well met’
‘Equality of opportunity is outstanding’
‘Vibrant, tolerant and respectful college community’

Principal, Martin Tolhurst, says ‘Newham College has always achieved excellent Ofsted inspection results but this is our best ever. This outstanding result places us head and shoulders above other schools and colleges providing post-16 education.  Newham College of Further Education achieves fantastic results for local people and businesses.  Being described by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ is testament to the continued dedication of staff, students and our many partners.
