GCSE English and maths at grades C or above demonstrate that you have the skills, which prospective employers require. These qualifications give students a leading edge to beat off competition for desirable positions. Newham College is committed to supporting every student in their efforts to achieve grades C or above in English and maths. This in turn corresponds with Government Policy.
If you join Newham College with a grade D in either English and/or maths, you will be expected to re-sit whichever GCSE exam you still need to pass with a grade C result.
If you have a grade E or lower when you join, you will be advised to work towards gaining a grade C by studying Functional Skills as part of your course timetable. This will enable you to reach higher standards.
You can retake your English and maths GCSEs at Newham College by enrolling for our evening re-sit programme. Alternatively you can choose to compete a full GCSE programme, involving 5 subjects combining Science with English and Maths, or 5 subjects combining Social Science with English and Maths.
