A BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS TO CHAMPION APPRENTICESHIPS

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2015 The Business Lab hosted a breakfast for local SMEs to come and meet the Newham College Apprenticeships team and find out about how an apprenticeship can work for them. Local businesses were invited to the Lab to learn about the types of apprenticeships on offer through the College, how to recruit an apprentice, the government grants available and the changes in legislation around National Insurance contributions making the scheme even more accessible for small businesses.

Key industry figures, Newham Chamber members, local councillors and staff from Newham College London attended the official launch of The Business Lab this evening. Diane Gowland from the College and Joyce Roberts from the Skills Funding Agency were delighted to see this project finally come to fruition and were impressed by the great work already taking place and number of SMEs already engaged and using the Lab's services.

London-based SMEs and members of the Newham Chamber of Commerce attended the first SME networking evening at The Business Lab. The event saw Glen Addis, Project Manager, and his team welcome around 50 people for an evening of food, drink - provided by Andrews Catering, itself an east London SME - and business socialising. A positive response was received from all for the services and support The Business Lab will provide.

Our first ever Women in Business Connect Focus Group got off to a great start with many female entrepreneurs and SME owners coming along to enjoying a coffee and lively business discussion. This hands-on workshop was led by two of the Business Lab's female entrepreneurs and business advisors, Corinne Mcgee and Fiona Latter. This networking event takes place every Friday between 9.30am and 12pm at the Lab.

The team from East London Business Place, have been bought over to Newham College to be based at the Business Lab, following the great work they have done on the ERDF Fit For Legacy Project. Led by Glen Addis, Project Manager, this team of expert business advisors will be based at the lab supporting London-based SMEs and start-ups with successfully growing their businesses.
