With our online courses, you will obtain an accredited qualification, gaining valuable skills and knowledge that will safeguard your future. You will also contribute towards the wellbeing of your community and businesses during these difficult times of uncertainty.

Learners will have to undertake an initial assessment to ascertain their current academic level in order to allocate any additional assistance that may be needed to achieve their chosen course. Assessments usually take place on a weekly basis at the East Ham Campus.

All courses listed have a minimum age requirement of 19 for enrolment purposes, except apprenticeships which have a minimum age requirement of 16.

Certain courses or programmes have other specific eligibility criteria (unemployed and/or economically inactive, academic achievement, etc.) and these will be discussed with learners at assessment. Start dates are approximate where included, but all courses are usually dependent upon the number of enrolments per class.

Health, Public Services and Social Care

Classroom delivery

These courses are aimed at students 19+.

Steps to Enterprise

This course focuses on self employment and business start up support, and runs for 3 weeks. There will be taster sessions in October 2020 with the first set of classes starting in November 2020. There will be further classes in January 2021, April 2021 and May 2021. 

Work Focus with IT

This course gives you the tools to help you find your next job: job-seeking using computers, creating a CV, emails, social media, etc. The course runs for 2 weeks with start dates in September 2020, April 2021 and May 2021.

Work Awareness (Entry Level 3)

This short course offers the learner practical job-seeking support and runs for 1 week. Courses begin in January 2021, April 2021 and May 2021.

ESOL Employability (Entry Level 1, 2 and 3)

This is an employability course aimed at ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners and runs for 11-12 weeks. Start dates: September 2020, November 2020, January 2021, February 2021, April 2021, and May 2021.

Get into Healthcare programme

These courses have been specifically chosen to provide a wide range of skills from across the health and care sectors to ensure that learners are able to gain the knowledge, qualifications and connections in order to help them achieve success in their chosen career path.

Some courses are available both as online and classroom-based learning in order to provide the most convenient and accessible experiences as well as utilising developments in learning technology that allow learners to study in their own time and environment. The majority of courses are available as online only. Learners will need to meet IT equipment/internet accessibility criteria to be able to undertake online courses. In certain circumstances, Newham College may be able to assist learners with loans of suitable IT equipment in order for them to participate. Please mention IT/internet accessibility when enquiring.

All courses listed are at Level 2 unless otherwise shown. In addition to the courses listed below, learners will also have the opportunity to gain Functional Skills certificates in English, Maths and ICT depending upon their individual needs.

Learners need to be aged 19+ and unemployed/economically inactive.
