Are you aged over 19?
Do you have an interest in studying actuarial science and maths? If you want to go to university to study actuarial science and / or mathematics at degree level but don’t have the qualifications you need, this course will enable you to develop the skills and knowledge that are required for Higher Education.
This course is a level 3 course and is equivalent to three A-levels.

What is involved?

Actuarial science involves the application of complex mathematical methods to assess risk in insurance, finance and industry.
On this course you will develop your knowledge and understanding of economics, finance and statistics as well as advanced level mathematics – all essential and fundamental to actuarial science. The course is taught in a variety of ways, including, assignments and group work. You will be continually assessed throughout the year.


The majority of students that successfully complete the course will progress on to a university degree programme, with a focus on actuarial science with mathematics or a related field. Other options include progression to a Foundation Degree.
The main focus of Access programmes is to prepare learners for study at university, however some may decide to go into employment.
On completion of your course you will receive a profile of credits that will reflect your suitability for your chosen degree programme.

Course Requirements

You must be at least 19 years old in order to apply for this course.
It would be beneficial to have level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics (however you will be provided with an opportunity to gain a level 2 qualification in GCSE or Functional Skills English and maths).
If you do not have formal qualifications for entry, you will need to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm to study at level 3, as well as demonstrating level 2 abilities in communications and numeracy.
