Is the Course for me?

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for working in the Hospitality & Catering Industry. It is designed to meet the needs of learners who work or want to work in the industry with a focus on becoming a senior professional chef.

What is involved?

The NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery is aimed at students who wish to develop their existing skills to produce, prepare and cook a wide range of complex dishes to the standard expected by the more prestigious sectors of the industry.

All equipment, materials and ingredients are provided, but you will need to buy a knife set and protective clothing.

Work Experience opportunity
As part of the programme you will conduct a two week work placement in a Business and Enterprise organisation/field of your choice. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting.
Enrichment Activities
A range of Enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are lectures by guest speakers from multinational hospitality chains and experienced chefs. Visits to various industry leaders. You will have an opportunity to participate in internal and external events where you will be able to show case your skills
I-Learning Sessions
This is additional time embedded in your programme for your study to promote independent learning. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research.
Support Tutorials
Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course and provide you with professional guidance and support throughout the course.
Personal Learning Plan Sessions
A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve your goals. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor and yourself and actions plans and support put in place to assist you in achieving your targets

This qualification could lead to jobs such as:

  • Sous chef
  • Head chef

If you want to undertake further study, this qualification can lead to Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management Skills

Course Requirements

Professional Cookery NVQ Diploma Level 2 and preferably be employed in the hospitality industry to gain maximum benefit from this course.
