This course is designed for those people who want to work in a commercial kitchen and will allow you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment.
The course also provides you with a stepping stone to progress onto further study within the hospitality and catering industry.

If you are interested in working in a commercial kitchen in a restaurant or other professional establishment, then this is the course for you.

What is involved?

This programme provides you with a fantastic opportunity to understand what a career within the Hospitality and Catering industry involves. During study you will cover a range of units to help you build the skills and knowledge you need to deliver a high level of service in a professional environment.

You will be assessed through observation of practical work, theory and assignments. This comprises the following units:

  • Basic food preparation and cooking
  • Introduction to kitchen equipment
  • Food safety in catering

Progression

Achieving an award in kitchen assistant skills can help you work in roles such as:

This qualification can also help you if you're interested in running your own business in the hospitality and catering area.
