Is the Course for me?
BTEC Level 3 National Award in Children's Play, Learning and Development is an engaging introduction to life and work in a vocational sector. Students develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context. With this qualification you would generally be expected to progress onto the second year programme BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Educator).
What is involved?
The course is for one academic year. The course integrates a broad range of modules within the Early Years curriculum to create a diverse programme of study.
The modules explored during your course include Child development, Play and learning, Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Supporting Children's Speech, Communication, Language, Literacy and Numeracy needs.
You will also have the opportunity to take part in extensive work experience within the Early Years sector during the programme. This will be assessed as part of your qualification.
The work is internally and externally assessed. There is one external exam on Child Development. All other units are assessed through various methods to ensure teaching and learning has taken place. This includes observations, presentations, reports, posters and essays.
Flexibility is provided for any learner with SEN; support is available from the SEN team. The maintenance of high standards is our priority, in order to make the lessons interesting and stimulating for all learners.
Work Experience opportunity
As part of the programme you will conduct on-going work placement in a range of Early Years environments. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting. A range of assignments will also be completed in relation to your work placement.
A range of Enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are sport activities, workshops, outings and debates. There is also the opportunity to request other enrichment activities that you have an interest in.
I - Learning Sessions
This is additional time embedded in your programme for independent study. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research to assist learning.
Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course. Support tutorials are at flexible times to meet your needs. This could occur during the daytime and evenings.
Personal Learning Plan Sessions
A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor and yourself.
