This course will enable you to develop knowledge and understanding by applying your learning and skills in a work-related context. Additionally, it will help you to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace.

The BTEC First Extended Certificate in Information & Creative Technology qualification will provide you with the knowledge that is required to be successful in the IT industry.

What is involved?

You will be required to complete 4 core units, 2 mandatory units along with some additional units to achieve the BTEC First Diploma in Information & Creative Technology. You can achieve multiple qualifications that are recognised worldwide.

During the course you will develop an understanding in each of the following areas:

• Computing in the workplace • Networking both wired and wireless systems • Working with latest hardware and software technologies • Configuring and administering hardware and software • Multimedia product development • Using virtual machines

You will learn in a variety of ways - through talks and demonstrations, by completing practical tasks and exercises, by independent study and by evaluation and assessment of your work. Online resources will be shared to support your studies with Microsoft and Cisco. The course includes industry research and report writing, the development of your CV and identifying the employment role that best suits your abilities and aspirations. English, maths and IT will form an integral part of your studies on the course.

Field trips are also planned during the course.

The course is based at Newham College's East Ham Campus with (ten minutes from East Ham tube) along with modern, well-equipped UK’s only Samsung Digital Academy.

Progression

This qualification is ideal for students preparing to enter the IT workforce. The diploma will enable you to apply for various roles within the IT industry such as positions in IT customer support and IT Sales roles.

This qualification will enable you to boost your CV and stand out in today's competitive job market. It will also broaden your employment opportunities by displaying your advanced skills.

Course Requirements

Entry onto all full time courses is subject to:
a) Completion of college assessment
b) Successful interview

Overseas equivalent qualifications will also be considered as determined by qualified guidance staff within the Admissions team.

Applicants will be required to sit an initial assessment of their IT, English and Maths ability.

You will also need:
5 GCSE passes at grade D or above, including English, or where more appropriate maths, at grade D or Functional Skills in applied communications or where more appropriate applied numeracy at level 1.
or
A Gateway Certificate/Diploma at level 1 with Functional Skills at level 1.
