If you feel enthusiastic about engineering, this course will be your starting point to learning more about it. The BTEC Level 1 Diploma will help you gain the technical knowledge and skills to start bringing your ambitions to life. You should begin at level 1 if you have just missed out on level 2 entry grades and still wish to progress to Higher Education, or employment. This is your opportunity to utilise your interests in Engineering and its technology, so you can move forward successfully.

What is involved?

You will be introduced to a range of engineering aspects such as interpreting and using engineering information, marking out techniques, machining processes and, electrical and electronic assembly practices.

There will be an emphasis on working safely while developing your practical skills and knowledge of the tools, equipment, principles and processes used in the engineering industry.


This course will prepare you for progression to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Engineering, or the EAL Level 2 Diploma Engineering Technology programme.

Course Requirements

There are no formal qualifications required, but you will need to demonstrate a desire and enthusiasm for studying in the field of engineering and have numeracy, written and spoken English at or above Entry Level 3.
