Do you want to learn the skills needed to carry out a range of barbering skills on all hair types? Then this is the course for you.

This course is for people who are passionate about cutting men's hair and becoming the best they can be. It offers a practical, real-world approach to help you achieve your ambitions and reach your potential. This course is designed to develop your barbering skills and knowledge to a commercially acceptable level. You will also study aspects of working within the barbering industry to enable you to appreciate work ethics, to improve your personal development.

What is involved?

This course will teach you how to cut men's hair in a variety of current fashion trends with the use of scissors and clipper cutting techniques. Some of the techniques covered will include working on different hair types including Afro, Asian and European. You'll also create looks such as layering, graduation, fading and have the opportunity to master outline shapes.

Classes take place in a salon environment which will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting. The course is taught by industry professionals who have worked in the business for over 20 years. Learners who do not currently hold a level 2 certificate in Health and Safety will also gain this qualification as part of the course.

Progression

Progression onto work, a level 3 award in cutting men's hair or other level 2 hairdressing award.
Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to progress onto a full diploma

You may progress onto any of the following courses:

  • City and Guilds Level 2 Awards e.g. cutting women’s hair, the art of dressing women’s hair or the art of colouring hair.
  • Level 3 award in cutting men's hair
  • A full level 2 Diploma in men's and women's hairdressing

Course Requirements

You will need to purchase a barbering kit at the approximate cost of £50.
You will need to enjoy working with people and have a keen interest in cutting men's hair.
You will need good communication skills, along with a good level of written and spoken English

You will also be invited to the college for an initial assessment to determine your suitability or you may progress internally within the college from successfully completing a level 1 or level 2 course.
