A brand new programming course for the next generation of coders. This certificate has been developed with employers and education providers to offer a unique blend of hands-on technical skills, transferable 'soft' skills and workplace behaviours. This helps learners to feel more confident and ready for work, and gives employers the skilled and work-ready recruits they need. Are you looking to start a career in programming? This course is ends tested and students must pass a final exam along with a synoptic assignment. This synoptic assignment will cover every unit learned in the year. This is the only course of its kind in the UK, running in our very own Samsung Digital Academy using the latest devices to test your programs upon

You will learn the languages below to create software for Computers, Tablets, Mobile phones, Smart TVs and smart watches. Java/JavaScript HTML5 & CSS3 Additionally you will learn about key theory behind programming for work.

What is involved?

The Level 2 Technical Certificate is for you if you and to experience practical application and development of skills to work in the digital technology industry. Learners will explore a wide range of industry areas including systems infrastructure, application development, web development, cyber security, business analysis, telecoms/unified communications. A typical day will consist of theory work, getting hands-on and testing your app on the latest devices provided by Samsung. You will learn in a variety of ways - through talks and demonstrations, by completing practical tasks and exercises, by independent study and by evaluation and assessment of your work. The course includes industry research and report writing, the development of your CV and identifying the employment role that best suits your abilities and aspirations. English, maths and IT will form an integral part of your studies on the course. Field trips are also planned during the course. The course is based at Newham College's East Ham Campus (ten minutes from East Ham tube) in modern, well-equipped Samsung Digital Academy.


Students typically progress to our level 3 TecBac Course, allowing them to gather a deeper understanding in Software Development for industry. Students can also opt for level 3 apprenticeship in Software Development.

Course Requirements

Entry onto all full time courses is also subject to: a) Completion of college assessment b) Successful interview Overseas equivalent qualifications will also be considered as determined by qualified guidance staff within the Admissions team. Applicants will be required to sit an initial assessment of their IT, English and Maths ability. This course is only for 16 to 18 year olds. You will also need: 5 GCSE passes at grade D or above, including English, or where more appropriate maths, at grade D or Functional Skills in applied communications or where more appropriate applied numeracy at level 1. or A Gateway Certificate/Diploma at level 1 with Functional Skills at level 1.
