Is the Course for me?

This course is ideal for students who wish to pursue a career in Social Media Management and Digital Marketing. It will enable you to receive a great introduction to the world of technology. You can utilise this course as the first stepping stone towards your goal of working in one of the fastest growing industries.

What is involved?

On completion of the course assessments you will earn the Level 1 Certificate in IT User skills.

During the course, you will develop an understanding in each of the following areas:

  • Social Media Management fundamentals
  • Digital Marketing fundamentals
  • Web development fundamentals
  • Internet Security fundamentals
  • Use of a variety of Microsoft Office for business

You will learn in a variety of ways - through talks and demonstrations, by completing practical tasks and exercises, by independent study and by evaluation and assessment of your work. The course includes industry research and report writing, the development of your CV and identifying the employment role that best suits your abilities and aspirations. English, maths and IT will form an integral part of your studies on the course. Field trips are also planned during the course.

The course is based at Newham College's Stratford Campus (ten minutes from Stratford tube) in modern, well-equipped class room.


Students who complete the Level 1 Certificate often progress to Level 2 to become a trained IT Technician, Software/Web Developer or Digital Marketer.

This qualification would help you understand the IT world and would develop your basic skills in Web Development Social Media and Digital Marketing.

Course Requirements

To be successful in this course, you should be familiar with using personal computers. You should be comfortable in the Windows environment and be able to use Windows to manage information.

You will sit an Initial assessment of your English and Maths as well as an IT assessment.

You must also be aged between 16-18 in order to enrol for this course.
