This course is ideal for students who wish to pursue a career in IT. It will enable you to receive a great introduction to the world of technology. You can utilise this course as the first stepping stone towards your goal of working in one of the fastest growing industries and obtaining your first industry recognised qualification.

What is involved?

On completion of the course, you will take an exam to obtain the CompTIA IT Fundamentals qualification. On passing these exams and other assessments you will also earn the Level 1 Diploma in IT User skills.

During the course you will develop an understanding in each of the following areas:

  • PC components and their functionality
  • Networking and Security
  • Installing, configuring and administering hardware and software
  • Use of a variety of Microsoft Office and productivity applications
  • Effective use of technology

You will learn in a variety of ways - through talks and demonstrations, by completing practical tasks and exercises, by independent study and by evaluation and assessment of your work. The course includes industry research and report writing, the development of your CV and identifying the employment role that best suits your abilities and aspirations. English, maths and IT will form an integral part of your studies on the course. Field trips are also planned during the course.

The course is based at Newham College's Stratford Campus (ten minutes from Stratford tube) in modern, well-equipped class room.

Progression

The CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification is ideal for students preparing to enter the IT workforce. The certificate will enable you to apply for various roles within the IT industry such as positions in entry level customer support and IT Sales roles.

The certificate can be a stepping stone to higher certifications in CompTIA and Microsoft; the two most highly recognised industry IT standards in the world.

Students who complete the Level 1 Diploma often progress to Level 2 to become a trained IT Technician. You could also progress to our other level 2 courses including Software and DEC.
