Is the Course for me?

This course is an ideal introduction to working within the Motor Vehicle industry. This is both a practical and theory based course. The aim of the qualification is to give students the opportunity to gain knowledge and develop a range of practical skills relevant to the Motor Vehicle Industry

What is involved?

The course is delivered during the day and focuses on various aspects of motor vehicle technology and the maintenance of the main parts, such as driveline, spark ignition systems and vehicle construction. You will also undertake English, Mathematics and have the opportunity to undertake a Functional Skill, participate in a range of enrichment activities which are tailored to the curriculum area and your interests. You will be assessed on your practical skills and your knowledge through the completion of practical assignments and other assessments


You can apply for further study on to the IMIA Motor Vehicle maintenance level 1 programme. This will lead to the level 2 provision and then on to employment or higher education.

Course Requirements

There are no formal qualifications required, but you will be assessed during induction to ensure that the course you have chosen is at a level appropriate to your needs. You will also need to show a genuine desire and enthusiasm for studying to be a motor mechanic.
