Is the Course for me?
The Certificate in Counselling Skills aims to develop your knowledge and skills of counselling in preparation for further learning or training. The course will develop your listening skills and will also support you to develop skills needed in daily life and at work.
What is involved?
The main focus of this course is to understand and apply your knowledge of counselling skills into your personal and professional lives. The units covered in the course will develop your skills to help others.
Support Tutorials Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course. Support tutorials are at flexible times to meet your needs. This could occur during the daytime and evenings.
The work is internally assessed and there are no exams. There are three units to complete which are Understanding Counselling Skills, Reflective Practice in Counselling and Applying Counselling Skills.
Various assessment methods are used to ensure learning & teaching has taken place such as peer assessment, case studies, practical demonstration, role play, presentations and written assignments. Flexibility is provided for any learner with SEN; support is available from the SEN team. The maintenance of high standards is our priority, in order to make the lessons interesting and stimulating for all learners.
You may progress to a Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Psychology, Counselling and Sociology or Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Health and Social Care. Alternatively you may choose to gain employment within the Counselling or Health and Social Care sectors.
