Is the Course for me?
The purpose of the qualification is to teach about some of the up to date issues related to the built environment and provide an interesting context for strengthening numeracy, literacy, IT skills understanding and knowledge as well as applying scientific methods to real problems in civil engineering and building design. It looks at specific issues related to buildings so that the learner will better appreciate the human environment including the impact of people on their natural surroundings.
What is involved?
The Design, Engineer, Construct (DEC) Hub course is a 16 week programme that gives candidates the opportunity to gain a Level 2 qualification and prepare them for a career in the building design world. Throughout the programme you will work closely with industry experts to learn a range of skills involved in the building design process including using the latest industry standard software Autodesk Revit. The course has been designed with industries to make sure that the activities are reflective of real life scenarios and learners will experience a range of career roles including; architecture, quantity surveying, structural engineering, facilities management, land surveying, planning, inclusive design and sustainable management. Students will also gain industry relevant work experience whilst studying the programme. You will learn in a variety of ways - through talks and demonstrations, by completing practical tasks and exercises, by independent study and by evaluation and assessment of your work. The course includes industry research and report writing, the development of your CV and identifying the employment role that best suits your abilities and aspirations. English, maths and IT will form an integral part of your studies on the course. Site visits are also planned during the course. The course is based at Solar House (ten minutes from Stratford tube) in modern, well-equipped class room.
Upon completion of the course, students can progress on to a Level 3 Design, Engineer, Construct qualification. Students can also do Level 3 apprenticeships within Construction and the Building Environment.
