Have you ever wanted to know how to perform professional makeovers or provide professional treatments in salons? Or you would love to run your own beauty business? This course gives you a great start to a successful career in the beauty industry, introducing a range of exciting treatments including manicures, pedicures, waxing and facials.
You’ll be taught in Newham College’s professionally run salon Avant Garde, where you’ll be able to perform treatments and perfect your newly acquired skills on paying clients.
You will be trained in our fully equipped beauty salons by our highly skilled team of beauty lecturers where you will be assessed through observation of practical work, theory and online exams.
This course will enable you to begin your career path into the beauty industry.
It covers all the basic beauty therapy treatments and will provide you with a good base from which you could progress to further courses and employment. During the course, it is mandatory to do work experience. For assessments, you need to work on paying clients.
You will be retaking your GCSE Maths and English, if you did not achieve Grade C in any of these subjects, as part of your course to enable you to progress onto Level 3 qualifications.
As part of the programme, you will conduct a work placement in a Business and Enterprise organisation/field of your choice. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting.
A range of enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are lectures by guest speakers including Eve Taylor, Dermalogica, Supercover, sharing their knowledge and experience with you. There will also be visits to various industry leaders.
You will have an opportunity to participate in internal and external events where you will be able to showcase your skills.
This is additional time embedded in your programme for your study to promote independent learning. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research.
Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course and provide you with professional guidance and support throughout the course.
A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve your goals. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor and yourself and actions plans and support put in place to assist you in achieving your targets.
You will need to possess at least 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or above and a Level 1 qualification. In addition, you must enjoy working with people and have good communication skills, along with a good level of written and spoken English.
You must be willing to purchase a professional kit and a uniform for this course.
You will be invited to the college for an initial assessment and interview to determine your suitability for the course.
Progress onto Level 3 Beauty Therapy or join an apprenticeship at Level 3 Beauty.
You can also progress onto Level 2 Media Makeup, Level 2 Hairdressing or Barbering courses where you will learn cutting, colouring and styling skills.
