This business study programme develops skills that support learners who are interested in a pathway to University. The study programme prepares learners for a range of skills within the Business industry and higher education courses.

Your learning will include private study, preparation for assessment and undertaking assessment when not under supervision, such as preparatory reading, revision and independent research.

Course description

The study programme brings together knowledge and understanding (the cognitive domain) with practical and technical skills (the psychomotor domain). This is achieved through performing vocational tasks that encourage the development of appropriate vocational behaviours (the affective domain) and transferable skills.

Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are valued in both higher education and the workplace.

Delivery consists of:

  • Developing a Marketing Campaign
  • Personal and Business Finance
  • Recruitment and Selection Process
  • Work Experience in Business
  • Managing an Event
  • Exploring Business

As part of the programme, you will conduct a two-week work placement in a business environment. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting. Assignments will also be completed in relation to your work placement.

Entry requirements

GCSE Entry

5 GCSEs grade 9-4 including English and Maths.

Level 2 Entry

Successful completion of a Level 2 course to a published standard (for example, with a merit grade) with Functional Skills gained at level 2 in English and Maths.


  • Internal progression onto our Advance National Extended Diploma in Business
  • Employment within the business sector such as junior business roles in marketing, administration, finance, events management, human resources, and other related areas in the business sector, including Higher Apprenticeships.

Fees and funding

The course fee is TBC plus exam fee TBC. The Advanced learner loan is TBC.
