The focus for this course is to enable you to develop the skills you need to progress in the hospitality industry.

For learners starting out in hospitality & catering and want a basic understanding of the industry, this qualification is designed for those who want to prepare for further learning or training in the hospitality & catering sector.

Course description

This programme is a good introduction to a career in hospitality and catering. Students will find out about the kinds of jobs involved in the industry, develop practical skills and investigate the materials, ingredients and equipment used in the industry. Units include basic food preparation and cooking, food service and customer care.

All equipment, materials and ingredients are provided, but you will need to buy a knife set and protective clothing.

Entry requirements

You should have minimum of 2 GCSEs grade 2 or above, or have successfully completed an Entry Level qualification.


This qualification could lead to jobs such as kitchen assistant, food service assistant or hotel receptionist.

If you want to undertake further study, this qualification can lead to a Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery or Level 2 in Hospitality Services.

This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course feefor adults is £632 (plus exam fee £105).
