This course will provide you with a level 2 qualification in Early Years. It will provide you the opportunities in gaining knowledge and skills in Early Year’s sector and to facilitate progression onto a Level 3 Early Years course, Apprenticeships, Access to HE and/or employment.

Course description

This Level 2 course consists of 8 units. All units are internally set, marked and assessed. There are no compulsory work placements to be completed; however it is advisory for all learners to complete at least one day of work placement throughout the duration of the course.

Entry requirements

You should have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 including English and Maths and/or equivalent.

An Initial Diagnostic Assessment must be completed before you are enrolled – you need to achieve Level 1 English, diagnostic 60% or above to be accepted on to the Level 2 course. This is to ensure you are put on the right course at the right level.


  • Assistant Youth Worker
  • Assistant Social Care with Children and Youth
  • Assistant Health Professional such as Health Visitor, Doctor and Midwives
  • Assistant Pre-school Workers
  • Assistant in a Children’s Centre
  • Assistant in a Children’s Residential Care Home
  • Assistant in Day Nurseries, Nursery Schools and Nursery classes
  • You can go onto Access to Early Years Level 3 Diploma, Apprenticeship and/or employment.

Fees and funding

The course fee is £362 (plus £75 exam fee).
