Our Functional Skills courses will help you to develop the skills you need for future career opportunities, real-life situations or further study.
Proficiency in English and maths are essential skills for any job or career pathway you may wish to pursue. Employers and universities are looking for candidates to demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills and we can help you achieve this so you can expand your opportunities and acheive your career ambitions.
We offer Functional Skills English courses from Entry Level to Level 2. Depending on which level you start your English course with us, you can progress through the levels up to Level 2. We have daytime and evening options available at both of our campuses.
Your English learning will start with reading, writing, speaking, listening and communication skills. It will progress through understanding grammar, punctuation and sentence structure, to developing critical-thinking and analysing text.
There are no formal entry requirements but all new learners will need to complete an initial assessment to determine your level of English and assign you to the correct level of study that best suits your needs. No prior preparation is necessary for this assessment.
Depending on your level of study, you can progress through the levels until you achieve Level 2. Once you've achieved the appropriate standard, you can progress into employment or higher education.
If you are aged 19+, how much you pay for your course and any additional costs will depend on a number of factors. Learn more about course fees and finances.
We have a range of financial support options available to help you while you’re studying. Find out what support you may be eligible for.
