If you are looking to develop your skills and ability in fashion and textiles in order to progress onto higher education, this course is for you. You will learn technical skills in pattern cutting garment technology, textile techniques, design and presentation skills.

Course description

This qualification offers learners the opportunity to develop their technical abilities and design skills in fashion and textiles, over their course of study through a process of critical evaluation, practice and review, which are key skills for progression to higher education.

Using our well-resourced studio spaces this course is taught through lessons and demonstrations of techniques and processes alongside assignments.

The qualification also supports learners to become confident in taking ownership of and responsibility for their projects.

The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. In addition, teachers, employers and professional bodies have been involved and consulted in order to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice for those learners who choose to enter employment directly.

Entry requirements

This course is ideal for students who have reached a good level of ability in art and design or have completed a Level 2 fashion course/Level 2 in art and design and a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 5 and above.

This course leads to a second year, enabling learners to reach a high level of competency and enough UCAS points to apply for higher education in the creative subjects.

Progression

The 540 Diploma, equivalent to 1.5 A Levels, is for learners who are looking to study art and design as a one-year, full-time course or as part of a two-year, full-time study programme. The full two years will enable learners to progress onto higher education.

This course also supports progression to an apprenticeship.

Fees and funding

This course is free for 16-18. Course fees for adults are £2882 with exam fees of £150.
