This one year course is designed for anyone who is interested in the Hairdressing Industry. It will cover a range of hairdressing skills to provide a range of employment possibilities in a salon and progression opportunities.

This is an opportunity for learners to start on the route to becoming a Hairdresser, experiencing and carrying out hairdressing services within our well-equipped salons. You will then, after a successful skills test, be able to progress onto a Level 2 Hairdressing or Beauty related programme.

Course description

If you wish to gain valuable insight into the Hairdressing industry, then this is the course for you. You will develop basic skills and relevant industry knowledge, through experiential learning of selected techniques and products.

This course is designed for individuals who wish to achieve the basic skills required for progression in the hairdressing industry from junior level. This course will ensure you are on the right path in developing sufficient communication and occupational skills for progression onto a Level 2 hairdressing or beauty related programme.

Work experience

As part of the programme you will conduct a work placement in a hair salon. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting.

Enrichment activities

A range of enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme including lectures by guest speakers from leading stylists and salon managers and visits to various industry leaders, trade events or seminars.

You will have an opportunity to participate in internal and external events where you will be able to show case your skills.

You will take part in our end of year event where you will be given the opportunity to use your creative design skills complete a look for the catwalk.

I-Learning sessions

This is additional time embedded in your programme for your study to promote independent learning. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research.

Support tutorials

Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course and provide you with professional guidance and support throughout the course.

Personal Learning Plan sessions

A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve your goals. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor and yourself and actions plans and support put in place to assist you in achieving your targets.

Entry requirements

You will also need to have good communication skills, a friendly and pleasant personality – as well as good levels of personal presentation. In addition, you should be willing to work to deadlines.


Progression onto a Level 2 Hairdressing or Beauty related programme.

Fees and funding

This course is free for 16-18 learners.

The course fee for adults is £362 (plus exam fee £90).
