This course gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin study of the sport and exercise science and gives learners additional breadth and depth to prepare them fully for further study, training and careers in sports physiotherapy, PE teaching, coaching, sports development, sports lawyer, sports therapy and sports journalist.

Learners will study seven mandatory content areas:

  • Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • Coaching for Performance and Fitness
  • Field and Laboratory-based Fitness Testing
  • Functional Anatomy
  • Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Performance
  • Sport and Exercise Physiology

Course content

Our 16-18 study programmes are designed with vocational career pathways into employment and university. We deliver employability skills through the used with East London Business Alliance (ELBA), conduct one-to-ones and group tutorials, send learners on a two-week work experience in a workplace related to your course and plan a range of enrichment activities for both fun/skills development and course related. You will also be given the opportunity to join our Football team playing in both indoor Futsal and outdoor competitions, join our Cricket team again with both indoor and outdoor tournaments, participation in Handball, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Badminton.

Qualifications on completion

  • BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE grades 9-4, including English language, literature and Math


The qualification is intended to carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements for many relevant courses, for example:

  • BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science
  • BSc (Hons) in Sport Science
  • BSc (Hons) in Sport and Coaching Studies
  • BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Sports Science
  • BSc (Hons) Sports Management
  • BSc (Hons) Physiology and Sports Science
  • BSc (Hons) Sport Sciences and Education
  • BSc (Hons) Sports Science in Relation to Medicine

This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC.
