This sport course supports learners that are interested in a pathway employment in an assistant coaching role and or university.

The study programme prepares learners for a range of skills within the sports/fitness industry, the leisure sector and higher education courses.

Delivery consists of:

  • Developing Coaching Skills
  • Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport
  • Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport
  • Organising Events in Sport and Physical Activities
  • School Sport Delivery

Course description

As part of the programme, you will conduct a two-week work placement in a Sport or Fitness environment. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge to a practical work setting. Assignments will also be completed in relation to your work placement.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs grades 9-4 including English, Maths and PE or a Level 2 qualification with Functional Skills gained at Level 2 in English and maths.


You can move into employment as an assistant coach which may involve working with youth sport or working with children at beginner levels, for example, primary-school age.

This qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers. Learners can progress to full degree single or combined courses, including:

  • BA (Hons) Sports Coaching and Development
  • BA (Hons) Sports Management

Fees and funding

This course is free for student aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC.
