Big Bang London East 2018

East Ham Campus, London View on map

Big Bang London East is taking place at the College’s East Ham Campus on Thursday 5th July 2018, from 10:00 – 15:30.

This regional event attracts thousands of visitors from hundreds of schools and colleges. It is a large scale celebration of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) for young people.

There will be hands-on exhibitions, professional workshops and interactive shows for students aged 10-19. Some will even take part in a competition to showcase their skills and knowledge of STEM subjects.

Newham College students were commended for achieving the ‘best scientific enquiry’ for the competition in 2017. They are now being trained to act as STEM Ambassadors and promote STEM subjects to schools and local employers, by delivering subject-specific demonstrations.

This will involve students from each of the following departments in the College:

  • Science
  • Samsung Digital Academy
  • Engineering and Construction
  • Maths
Newham College has worked alongside partners in Westminster Kingsway College for the past three years to deliver the London regional Big Bang STEM Fair. It’s culminated in over 8,000 visitors from 153 schools and 79 projects coming together for the four events so far. This year our science ambassadors will aim to reach young people who aren’t yet engaged with any official STEM programme.
