25 October 2021 The annual Shining Stars ceremony returned to honour and celebrate our outstanding students and raise funds for the Learning Revolution Trust.

On Thursday 21 October, Newham College celebrated the achievements of students through one of the most difficult years in recent history with our Shining Stars Awards Ceremony at our East Ham campus.

The event honoured the accomplishments of our students who have represented the college and its values positively, achieved consistently good grades, made outstanding contributions to college life, and have successfully moved into employment.

The evening was co-hosted by Matt Fawcett, Executive Director for Strategy and Innovation and Anthony Braithwaite, Head of Student Services who introduced several guests with close links to the College, including Althea Loderick, Chief Executive of Newham Borough Council, Dame Zandra Rhodes, fashion icon and founder of the Fashion and Textile Museum, and Chris Evangelou, actor and boxer. Representatives from prominent businesses, the press and media were also in attendance to hear the aspirational accounts of our students.

Fashion and Textile and Hair and Beauty students gave outstanding performances during the ceremony, demonstrating their work throughout the year.

As always, the awards evening doubles as a fundraising event for the Learning Revolution Trust, a charity that offers financial aid to young people and adults facing economic and social barriers to learning so that they can enter and remain in further education and eventually progress into employment. We are immensely proud that the event raised over £61,000 for the charity.

This year’s awards were particularly special due to the additional adversity which many have faced through a most difficult year. It is a testament to the dedication and the resilience of our students that they have succeeded and achieved their goals throughout this period.
