For the deaf and hard of hearing, the blind and visually impaired

Newham College of Further Education is a supportive and inclusive environment which promotes achievement and progression for all. The Sensory Support team seeks to remove barriers to learning, value all those who attend and play an integral role in supporting learners’ through their desired progression routes.

What can we offer you?

In-Class Support

Communicators and support workers who can provide British Sign Language/ Sign Supported English note-taking, voice-over, language clarification/modification and adjustments to learning materials.

Tutorial Support

Support tutor who can provide you with study skills support, language modification,  help with assignments and exam preparation. They will also work with anyone else who supports you to make sure your time at college is successful and that you progress onto employment or further study.  

Assistive Technology

We provide Laptops, iPads, Dictaphones and additional equipment for the visually impaired.   We also support you to utilise your own technology to enable you to be more independent in your study.

Exam Concessions

Support can include, additional time, scribe, reader, communicator, rest breaks, prompter and paper based exams. Your needs will be assessed and appropriate concessions agreed.
