Want to study at university but don’t have the requisite A-Levels? Then an Access to Higher Education course is tailor-made for you.

The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a one-year intensive qualification for students aged 19+, which prepares you for degree-level study at university. The diploma is equivalent to 3 A-Levels. We offer courses in the following areas:

  • Business, Finance & Accounting
  • Life & Health Sciences
  • Engineering, Computing & Mathematical Sciences
  • Social Sciences & Law

The School of Access to Higher Education, based at our Stratford campus, has developed strong links with universities and has witnessed a very high number of students progressing to a wide range of universities.

And if students are not quite ready for an Access course, we also have a preparatory Pre-Access course in Science and Social Sciences.

Progression

On successful completion of an Access to HE Diploma, you can progress onto a degree at university or to a higher level of employment. Many of our students have progressed onto a Russell Group university.

Alternatively if university is not the route for you, you can progress to a Level 4 Health and Social Care, Business and Management or Computing course at the College.

Why Newham College for Access courses?

  • We offer more Access to Higher Education courses than any other college in London.
  • We have the highest number of Access students progressing to Russell Group universities in London.
  • Newham College UCAS applicants have a 95% offer rate from universities.

Worried about costs?

If you are aged 19-23 and do not have a full Level 3 qualification, then your first Access to HE course is FREE.

If you are over 24 or have prior qualifications, then you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of your Access course at Newham.

However, if you move on to and complete a Higher Education course, the outstanding balance owed on the loan gets written off. This means you will not have to repay it.
