Our Functional Skills courses will help you develop the skills you need for future career opportunities, real-life situations or further study.
English learning starts with basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. You will then progress to understanding grammar, punctuation and sentence structure, and developing critical thinking and text-analysis skills.
Maths courses will cover a range of mathematical techniques. You’ll start by improving your understanding of numbers, fractions and percentages, and move on to applying your knowledge, measuring shape and space, and handling data in practical situations.
Functional Skills are fully recognised qualifications, enabling you to progress in education, life skills or employment, and provide a progression route to GCSEs if desired. These courses are tailored to your needs and are free to adults who do not have GCSE English or Maths at grade 9-4 (A-C).
English and maths courses are offered on a part-time day or evening basis at both East Ham and Stratford campuses to suit your work or life commitments.
Functional Skills in English and Maths are qualifications that equip you with the essential skills needed to learn, work and live more independently.
There are no formal entry requirements but apply today and we will be in touch with you to invite you in for an initial assessment to make sure that you are studying at the right level.I’m interested!
