During this two-year programme, students will develop the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of health occupations.

Future careers and salary expectations include:

  • Midwife: £24,907 to £44,503
  • Healthcare Centre Manager
  • Maternity support worker: £18,005 to £24,157
  • Mental health nurse: £24,907 to £44,503
  • Ambulance care assistant: £18,005 to £21,142
  • Adult nursing: £24,907 to £37,890

If you’d prefer to embark on further study instead, you will be able to progress onto a Newham College higher apprenticeship at Level 3 or Level 4 or higher education.

What you will learn?

All students will develop a general understanding of health and science:

  • Working within the health and science sector
  • Health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Managing information and data
  • Principles of good scientific and clinical practice
  • Core science concepts including the structure of cells, tissues and large molecules, genetics, microbiology and immunology

You will embark on an extended work placement within a laboratory, hospital or healthcare setting where you will be expected to complete the employer-set project.

Entry requirements

You are required to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (including Maths) at grades 4 or above. Your placement is also subject to an interview with the Head of School. You’ll also need a Level 2 Transitional programme in Health or Healthcare Science or other Level 2 qualification.
