Newham College receives Mayor’s Construction Academy Quality Mark
The Mayor of London has awarded Newham College with a prestigious Quality Mark for providing excellent standards of training in construction.
The College is now part of the Mayor’s Construction Academy (MCA), a network of 21 training providers that have gained official recognition for providing the sector with suitably skilled workers.
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, launched the Mayor’s Construction Academy to tackle growing skills shortages across the capital. He says:
“London is home to some of the most exciting and dynamic talent but there’s no denying we face a shortage in construction skills and that this is hampering our ability to tackle London’s housing crisis.”
“I’m committed to building the workforce of the future – and a key part of this is recognising the best skills providers across the city and using them as exemplars from which others can learn.”
The Mayor’s Construction Academy will strengthen co-ordination between training providers and employers in the construction industry. MCA Quality Marked providers now join councils, housing associations, homebuilders and construction companies in being eligible to bid for funding to better co-ordinate training with employers’ needs. They can also engage with local schools to promote careers in construction.
