Paralympian Visits Newham College

On Monday 4th December, Channel 4 News sports reporter and wheelchair basketball paralympian Jordan Jarrett – Bryan visited Newham College’s East Ham campus to motivate the students.

Jordan spent the day engaging with both disabled and non-disabled students who are completing courses in various subjects. His visit was arranged to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which took place on Sunday 3rd December. Jordan delivered a coaching session, organised a tournament and presented a confidence-building workshop.

Sports and leadership students gained an insight into Jordan’s sporting and media journey to date. They experienced a presentation about his career in wheelchair basketball and media reporting. The students interacted by testing a variety of media interview techniques, after being given both positive and negative scenarios to work with.

This led to a coaching a session before the day ended with a wheelchair basketball tournament, which involved gaining new skills and sporting techniques. There was also an opportunity for students to get photos and autographs from Jordan at the end of the day.

I’d like to thank Newham College staff for inviting me to deliver such a successful programme.
Jordan Jarrett – Bryan
