Travel & Tourism Student Achieves Unprecedented Success

Although Sujan Sivathas only started his level 1 Travel and Tourism course at Newham College in November 2016, he has already been fast-tracked onto a level 3 BTEC Advanced Subsidiary Diploma.

Sujan has excelled so fast, he will complete the two-year course in half the time that it usually takes.

In March 2017 Sujan took part in work experience to complement his studies. He spent this time gaining hands-on skills at the Radisson Blue Edwardian Hotel in Sussex. The hotel’s managers were so impressed with Sujan’s work that they offered him a job on the spot. In his first three months employment, he made such an impression he was personally named in eleven of the hotel’s four and five star reviews on Trip Advisor.

Sujan was offered a promotion, but he turned it down in order to focus on his studies. He plans to progress to university and study for a career in the travel and tourism business.  After completing his degree, Sujan either wants a job in a hotel management, or to train as a pilot.

He says:

I enrolled at Newham College when I came to London from Germany. My English wasn’t great and I started studying at level 1, but I’ll soon be able to apply for university. The college gives everybody a chance to do well and you can succeed if you put your mind to it.
