Course content

This programme is a good introduction to a career in hospitality and catering. Students will find out about the kinds of jobs involved in the industry, develop practical skills and investigate the materials, ingredients and equipment used in the industry.

Units include basic food preparation and cooking, food service and customer care.

All equipment, materials and ingredients are provided, but you will need to buy a knife set and protective clothing.

Enrichment activities

A range of enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of enrichment activities include lectures by guest speakers from multinational hospitality chains and experienced chefs and visits to various industry leaders.

You will have an opportunity to participate in internal and external events where you will be able to showcase your skills.

I-Learning sessions

This is additional time embedded in your programme for your study to promote independent learning. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research.

Personal Learning Plan sessions

A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve your goals. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor and yourself and actions plans and support put in place to assist you in achieving your targets.

You should have a minimum of 2 GCSEs grade E or above, or have successfully completed an Entry Level qualification.
