Course content

Designed with key employers, T Levels are a two-year programme choice that follow GCSEs and could give you a head start towards the career you want. It’s a smart choice to start your engineering career which keeps your future options open. The T Level programme includes the following compulsory elements:

A Technical Qualification (TQ), which includes: core theory, concepts and skills for an industry area an industry placement with an employer

The Technical Qualifications (TQs) allows you to develop the knowledge and skills relevant to the Engineering and Manufacturing sector.

At the heart of the T Level is the valuable industry experience that will give you the edge over other learners who take a purely academic pathway

Curriculum

In year 1 of your course you will learn about the world of Engineering, materials and their properties, mechanical principles, electrical and electronic principles, mechatronics and engineering and manufacturing control systems. Year 2 will see you focus on your Engineering specialism- Mechanical Engineering. This year, you also do your industry placement in a position with a firm that really appeals to you and gives you the experience that will most benefit you and your future.

Entry requirements

You need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a keen personal interest in pursuing a role in the engineering industry. Offers of a place on the course are dependent on your qualifications and a successful interview. You will need one of the following:

  • A GCSE grade 4 or above in English
  • A GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths
  • A GCSE grade 4 or above in Science

Maths is a critical element of this programme and is embedded in many of the units taken. A Level 2 Diploma in a relevant subject area to a Merit or Distinction grade is an advantage but not a necessity
